Franklin Commissioner Off Hook For Revealing Details Of Closed-Door Meeting

FRANKLIN COUNTY, N.C. — A Franklin County commissioner is off the hook after leaking information to the media about a closed-door meeting.

Commissioner Harry Foy was facing a possible censure, but his fellow commissioners decided in a tie vote to take no action.

The issue stems from a May 2004 helicopter crash that claimed the life of a sheriff's deputy and injured the pilot. A bank is now suing Franklin County, claiming the sheriff and county officials submitted fraudulent paperwork for a loan to restore the helicopter before the crash.

Foy got in trouble because he told a reporter the county was going to settle a lawsuit out of court.

Foy said he was just being honest and open.
