According to authorities, Wilson police had been chasing a car that fled from a traffic stop. A chase ensued, but investigators said police backed off when speeds got too fast.
The car later crashed into a small pickup truck at the intersection of Highway 301 and Pender Street around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The Wilson Police Department said the two people in the car, Laronge Whitley and Jabori Artis, were taken to Pitt Memorial Hospital. Whitley is listed in critical condition, and Artis is listed in good condition.
James Bowie, the driver of the pickup truck, is listed in critical condition.
That stretch of Highway 301 was shut down for three hours after the crash. Wilson police have not yet released any information about charges being filed.
