RALEIGH, N.C. — People in the Triangle and all over the world are praying for Pope John Paul II.
Easter Week Mass is supposed to be a celebration of the joy of new life, but at Our Lady of Lourdes in Raleigh, Catholics carry mixed emotions with the somber news of the pontiff's failing health.
"It is sad because we're losing a wonderful person, but what a wonderful time for the Lord to be taking him home," said Liz Reif, of Our Lady of Lourdes.
For the church, it is a time of uncertainty about what would happen if the pope passes away.
"Whether it's political or spiritual, I think when you start something new, it is a little fearful. But at the same time, trust in what our church is. I think there is no reason to be afraid," Reif said.
