WILMINGTON, N.C. — Wilmington-area veterans are hosting a fish fry to raise money for a Marine lieutenant accused of murdering two Iraqis during combat operations.
American Legion Post Ten leaders say Lieutenant Ilario Pantano deserves the best defense he can get and the veterans want to help him. The fish fry is scheduled for Friday afternoon.
Pantano is scheduled for an investigative hearing on April 25 at Camp Lejeune. He contends he shot two Iraqis in self-defense last year and a field investigation cleared him at the time.
