Man Killed When Shots Are Fired Into An Apartment

Raleigh police said a man was killed when someone fired shots into an apartment in southeast Raleigh Monday night.

Raleigh police got the call to 3037 Ashburn Court just after 7:30.

That's where they found 31-year-old Brian Horton dead.

"The victim was inside the residence, shots were fired from the outside to the inside and the victim was struck and was fatally wounded," said Jim Sughrue, Raleigh police spokesman. "It certainly does not appear to be an accidental shooting."

What's not clear is whether Horton was the target -- others were in the same apartment at the time but none were hit.

The shooter or shooters were in the parking lot, police said. So far, neighbors haven't been able to identify any suspects.

After the shooting, a dark colored (possibly dark blue or black) older model Cadillac was seen leaving the area. The vehicle was found by police Tuesday morning.

The neighborhood where the murder happened is no stranger to violence.

Last September, a stray bullet hit 7-year-old Melissa Torres while she was in her bedroom.

Police say the shots were fired during a fight between two groups of men.

Torres has recovered from her injuries.
