Wake County already has an emergency response vehicle in the works. It will be fully loaded with everything from medical supplies to a laptop that will eventually connect to cameras in the schools.
Wake County schools also trains all of its staff on lockdown procedures in the event of a crisis. Their goal is to separate kids who make threats from kids who are threats.
"The people involved will say we didn't think it could happen here. The reality is it could happen at any school," said Joanne McDaniel of the Center for School Violence Prevention.
Wake County schools and police have investigated 24 threats since July.
