RALEIGH, N.C. — An AMBER alert is over for two children abducted in Georgia.

Police say Terrance McDowell assaulted his ex-girlfriend, shot her father then abducted the woman's two children -- 4-year-old Faith McDowell and 5-year-old Jaquan Wright. Police say McDowell is Faith's father.

Authorities found the children safe at the home of one of McDowell's relatives in Greensboro, N.C. McDowell later surrendered to police in a parking lot Tuesday evening. He is headed back to Georgia to face charges.

Even though the abduction took place in Georgia, an AMBER alert was issued in North Carolina, because authorities believed McDowell was headed to Bladen County, where he has family.
