— Raleigh police are investigating a death at the Super 8 motel on New Bern Avenue, about a half-mile outside the Beltline.

Officers initially responded to a refusal-to-leave call about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, police said, but the incident became a death investigation.

Police and crime scene investigators searched room 323 Wednesday evening and a body was removed around 8:15 p.m.

Sources close to the investigation tell WRAL News that a woman who stayed in room 323 is in a local hospital. Her name and condition were not released.

Throughout the afternoon, the majority of the parking lot was roped off with police tape while officers combed on the motel's third floor.

No other information was released.

The body was a 2 yr old baby boy, killed by his mother who then tried to commit suicide and failed. RIP little one, you certainly deserved much better.

Pennywise, there's nothing ridiculous about the notion that this was a drug or prostitution transaction gone wrong. I'm angry about the outcome too - another murdered child - but I'm not slapping other posters around and insulting them.

Breaking news for you junior detectives. The body removed was of a 2 year old boy. What was that about prostitution? Next time save your ridiculous opinions.

Many "adult entertainers and their male protectors" use motels like this to operate their business.

I wouldn't expect this in such a nice normal quiet neighborhood.

Wait. I know I'm blonde and all, but this throws me. They removed a body from 323, but sources said the lodger in 323 is in the hospital? So were there TWO lodgers? Could this story get any more confusing?

Why is this story being reported before any facts are known? What is the public's great need to know about any crime before the facts are known. I wish the press would have patience and stop acting as if everything is a life or death emergency.
