Police Arrest Two In Counterfeit Check Ring, Look For Third Suspect

DURHAM, N.C. — Police expose a counterfeit check writing operation spanning five counties.

Durham police arrested Avon Champion and his wife, Johnette, on several charges. They are still looking for Jamie Robert Fuller.

The three people are accused of writing bad checks in Durham, Wake, Granville, Vance and Warren counties over the past four months.

Police say they used stolen IDs to write personal checks and wrote others using businesses that do not exist. The total damage was estimated to be more than $60,000.
