DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police had to close down a part of West Markham Avenue Thursday after a car ran into a house, causing damage to a gas line.
Authorities said a car driven by Gretchen Schlager ran off the road shortly after 9 a.m. and struck a house on West Markham Avenue.
The car damaged a gas line and meter, a retaining wall and a column on the house. No one inside the house was injured.
Firefighters sealed off the area along Markham Avenue until the utility company could shut off the broken gas line.
Schlager was treated at the scene by paramedics, but was not taken to the hospital. Possible charges are pending.
