DURHAM, N.C. — A 14-year-old driver was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle Monday after a baby died over the weekend after being delivered from a woman injured in the wreck.
The teenager, Chieh Hsu, was driving a car that collided with a pregnant woman's car.
The pregnant woman gave birth two months early on the day of the wreck, Durham police said. The child had brain damage and died Sunday morning.
After the accident, the 14-year-old girl and her father faced minor charges.
On Monday Durham police upgraded the charges against the 14-year-old driver to misdemeanor death by vehicle. The charges against the teen's father have been upgraded to aiding and abetting misdemeanor death by vehicle.
