Raleigh police say a woman tried to commit suicide Tuesday by jumping in front of a moving train.

Witnesses say the woman was standing on the walkway at the Amtrak station on West Cabarrus Street in downtown Raleigh. Witnesses said when the train was approaching the station, she stepped onto the tracks.

The 41-year-old woman was pinned underneath the train for nearly an hour, but survived.

The train was heading from Raleigh to New York. No one on board was injured.

The woman's name has not been released.
