GOLDSBORO, N.C. — A crowd gathered in Goldsboro Wednesday, hoping to get a peek into the past.

Members of the Board of Trustees opened a time capsule that was buried in 1924. Crews discovered the copper box while tearing down the old Community Building. Fire destroyed the building last summer.

Inside the box, they found what appear to be old newspapers and documents. All are covered in mud and severely damaged by water.

The city plans to send the documents to State History and Archive experts for restoration.
