After wet weekend, cooler breezes to come

Another hot, humid weekend is in store for the Triangle, but what’s waiting on the other side is “our first, legitimate, real taste of fall,” WRAL meteorologist Nate Johnson said Friday.

A cold front will move into the area late Saturday, bringing rain and the possibility of severe thunderstorms along with it. But as the system shoves off the coast Sunday evening, cooler breezes and drier air will welcome the first part of the week.

Temperatures are expected to top out in the low 80s on Monday and Tuesday, with overnight lows in the upper 50s.

“It’s going to be some great open window sleeping weather,” Johnson said."

Temperatures will inch upward through the week, hitting the mid-80s by Thursday. But Johnson said the lower humidity should stick around, even if the lower temperatures do not.

Temperatures around the Triangle will reach the lower 90s Friday and Saturday, with a cool-down starting Sunday.

Johnson cautions residents to keep an eye on the sky as the cold front moves in Saturday.
