'Dancing Deputies' hit of DNC security
The "Dancing Deputies" are all the rage of an Uptown Charlotte intersection, lightening the often stern mood of the extensive security during the Democratic National Convention.
Posted — UpdatedThe deputies with the Clayton County Sheriff's Office in northeast Georgia are part of a large contingent of law enforcement officers from around the country working the convention. These officers are also working it for the crowd.
"We look down on this intersection from the 32nd floor every day," Pam Mabry said, "We love (the deputies). It's awesome."
"I love it. I love it. I love it," said Taylor Davis, an Indiana native and Queens College student. "I love how he's getting into it and everything. It's perfect."
Deputy Michael Johnson said the dance moves were just a spontaneous thing that the group thought up after their first day on the job.
"We were bored sitting around, doing traffic Monday, and we thought, 'Let's go have some fun with it,'" Johnson said,
The road show has become a moment to remember during the tightly scripted convention.
"If I was driving over here, I'd be, like, 'What the heck is he doing?'" Charlotte resident Brenne Forst said. "I just forgot that this was the DNC."
"I'm late for work. This is great," Jose Colón said. "They bring a smile to everybody in Charlotte."
