CARY, N.C. — A new construction project will make getting around part of Cary a little more challenging.
The state Department of Transportation is widening U.S. 1/64 between Tryon Road and Walnut Street. The $58 million project includes noise walls and improvements to the interchanges at Walnut Street and Cary Parkway.
"We're trying to be honest that it's going to be a painful process. We're going to be out there for about two years," DOT engineer Bob Shultes said.
The project starts at 9 p.m. Monday in the northbound lanes. During the day, all lanes will be open, but the lane closures will take place at night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. and from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Saturday.
