RALEIGH — It's official. Gov. Mike Easley and his Council of State took their oaths of office Saturday . The inauguration's pomp and circumstance attracted a big crowd and big names.
North Carolina's favorite native son, Andy Griffith, had a front row seat. Durham's Jazz legend, Brandford Marsalis, played the national anthem.
Governor Easley was sworn in for his second term as North Carolina's governor. The Council of State is incomplete though.
The State Board of Elections is still trying to figure out what to do in the Agriculture Commissioner's race, in which Steve Troxler leads Britt Cobb. Meanwhile, the courts stopped June Atkinson from taking her oath for the State Superintendent's job. Challenger Bill Fletcher wants 10,000 provisional ballots, cast in the wrong precincts, to be thrown out.
