Vass Man Loses Dozens Of Relatives In Tsunami

print friendly

Many families lost more than one loved one in the recent Asian tsunami, but a Vass man is feeling a multiple sense of loss.

Pius Gabriel said 22 of his relatives died in Sri Lanka. Another 12 are missing.

Gabriel moved to the United States in the 1960s, but most of his family members were still living overseas when the tsunami hit.

"It's just beyond painful. It's numb. I can't feel it anymore because it's so numb," he said.

Gabriel said he is helping his relatives who survived. In addition, he has set up a relief fund for other victims.
