Speed Limit To Increase Along I-40 Widening Project

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — The state Department of Transportation will increase the speed limit from 55 mph to 65 mph on the Interstate 40 widening project from the Orange County line to N.C. 147 on Tuesday.

Work zone signs will remain in place, as some work remains on the I-40 widening project.

When lane closures are in place, the speed limit will decrease to 55 mph. Speed limits will be posted and the fine for exceeding either speed limit is $250.

Motorists are reminded to obey the posted speed limit, be aware of construction workers in the work zone, stay alert and watch signs for construction information.
