Police said the victims were inside a house on Arnette Avenue when they heard a knock on the door.
When the resident answered the door, three men rushed into the house and pistol-whipped a male victim. The man was taken to Duke University Hospital for treatment of a broken nose and other head injuries. A woman was also hit in the head with a gun.
As the suspects fled from the house, several shots were fired, according to police.
Investigators have charged Robert Martinez Jr. with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and second-degree kidnapping. Martinez is also wanted for a probation violation.
Martinez, 21, of 1029 Kent Street is described as a black male, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 130 pounds. Investigators are still trying to identify the other two suspects.
