A Johnston County deputy is recovering at home after being assaulted by another man.

Deputy Ronald Deese was attacked during a traffic stop near Interstate 40.

Investigators say Tavaris Williams kicked Deese in the groin and stomach when he tried to arrest him.

Deese was treated at the scene. Williams is behind bars, facing misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest of a government official and possession of marajuana. Other charges were already pending against Williams.
