RALEIGH, N.C. — A woman and her child are recovering from minor injuries after falling into a drainage ditch in Raleigh Wednesday evening.
Sunciaae King had been waiting for a city bus. She stepped on a drainage cover on Tee Dee Street and the cover collapsed.
King and her 1-year-old son fell in.
"She was cognizant enough, she kept the child from getting to hurt. She cushioned the baby," said Capt. James Askew of the Raleigh Fire Department.
Neighbors got the boy out. King climbed out on her own, with the help of a ladder.
