Capitol City Lumber has always had a Santa display. Ed Nicholson's grandfather started the display and the business dozens of years ago and the tradition of the display has always stuck.
"It's just become something that we do," he said.
"This is our tradition. This is how we celebrate, you know, kind of showing part of who you are," said Liza Sayre, Nicholson's daughter.
This year, it was time for a new display, built with plans from 1952. The company has received heartfelt letters, stating how much the display has meant to others.
"People sort of come by there on Hillsborough Street and they get used to seeing something," Nicholson said.
Capitol City Lumber is located on Beryl Road near the state fairgrounds.
