CARY, N.C. — Small town charm with big city attractions is a key marketing strategy for the town of Cary. It has made it a top ranking town in almost all categories.

"Low crime, great quality-of-life was a huge factor in why we decided to move back here," business owner Farrah Morgan said.

Violent crime in the country's 5th safest town is down, but police officers do not want people to get complacent.

"We are a city of 100,000 and we still have crime. It's a situation where we are going to have things happen, but we're very proud of the fact that we're an extremely safe place to live," said Capt. Dave Wulff of the Cary Police Department.

In an effort to keep it that way, investigators released a

, hoping the public can help them find the most dangerous criminals still on the loose.

"It bothers me," Morgan said, "Any source of crime is going to bother someone like me -- a mother and business owner -- because our safety is important," Morgan said.

What does a top 10 most wanted list do to the town's safe reputation? Mayor Ernie McAlister said it may actually help.

"We need to send the message if you come to Cary and commit a crime, we're going to catch you and put you in jail," he said.

It is a message McAlister said will bolster his town's safe city image -- one that police officers work hard to protect.

Cary police say many of the criminals on the top 10 list may still be in this area. In all, Cary is looking for 96 criminals in unsolved cases.
