DUDLEY, N.C. — Wayne County authorities are investigating a fatal shooting in the Dudley community.
Investigators found the body of Johnny Walston, 37, in the front seat of a pickup truck after it hit the side of a house in Dudley Friday morning. The weapon used in the shooting, a handgun, was recovered. Investigators have been interviewing people through out the day.
They said Walston was shot once in the chest around 8:40 a.m. while arguing with another man less than a mile up the road at the residence of Christopher Stancil at 205 Ruskin Road.
Investigators think Walston was driving to get help when he struck the house at the corner of Ruskin and Outlaw roads.
Deputies are looking for the shooting suspect. Waltson's body was sent to the chief medical examiners office in Chapel Hill for an autopsy.
