print friendly

Two men face a slew of charges after they allegedly led police officers from several agencies on a chase.

Officers say it started when Smithfield police tried to stop the men for speeding.

The chase went from Smithfield, through Benson and Erwin before it ended on Highway 421 near Buies Creek.

Two accidents occurred during the chase. This first was between an Erwin police department car and the suspect's car. The police officer involved was Lt. Hank Hayer. No injuries resulted from this accident.

The second accident was between a Harnett Sheriff's Department car and a Benson Police Department car. The driver of the Harnett vehicle was Deputy Bobby Strickland. He was taken to the hospital with back pain.

At least three agencies are filing charges against the men. The charges that have been filed include speeding, reckless driving, and felony attempting to elude. Names are not available for the suspects.
