OXFORD, N.C. — Firefighters are investigating the cause of a church fire in Oxford Saturday evening.

The roof of Morning Star Baptist Church's sanctuary caved in and a recently completed annex sustained fire damage as well.

"We don't suspect anything suspicious at this point," said Chief Lanny Dillehay of the Oxford Fire Department. "We're kind of leaning toward electrical, but we won't know until we get in there."

The inside of the building is gutted, but is not considered a loss.

No one was at the church at the time of the fire.

The congregation has been invited to share space at New Light Baptist Church on Goshen Street with another church.
