RALEIGH, N.C. — The state Department of Transportation has postponed ramp and traffic shifts scheduled to begin Saturday along eastbound Interstate 40 in Durham County due to the weather.
The DOT planned to close on- and off-ramps at N.C. 55 and N.C. 147.
When the work is rescheduled, the traffic shift and ramp closures will be in place for up to two months and are necessary as part of the I-40 widening project. The department is widening I-40 from four to six lanes and installing concrete median barriers.
The 10.6 mile section extends from the Orange County line to the Durham Freeway.
Work began on the I-40 widening project in early 2002 and is expected to be complete by late 2005.
