State Fair Plus Two N.C. State Games Could Equal Traffic Nightmare

RALEIGH, N.C. — West Raleigh will be a driving nightmare on Saturday.

In addition to traffic from the

State Fair

, N.C. State has its annual red-white intrasquad basketball scrimmage and a home football game against the University of Miami.

Saturday will not be the first time three major events are taking place in the same general area. Two years ago, the State Fair was going on at the same time as a N.C. State football game and a Carolina Hurricanes hockey game.

Those who are traveling to the game are being asked to take Edwards Mill Road to the RBC Center and Carter-Finley Stadium. Those who are traveling to the fair are being asked to take Highway 54 to Hillsborough Street and toward Blue Ridge Road and the state Fairgrounds.

Authorities are urging people to use placards on their cars to let them know if they are going to the fair or one of the games.

You can also catch a CAT bus to the fair Saturday. There are several pick-up sites, including Cary's SAS soccer park. the North Carolina Museum or Art and the McKimmon Center. The shuttles are free on Saturday because State Fair officials are picking up the tab.
