The Raleigh native and "American Idol" star wowed 12,000 screaming fans at Dorton Arena during two performances Monday. The State Fair was the final stop in Aiken's cross-country tour.
For some, the state fair concert was their first chance to see Aiken perform live. Then there are those who flock to Aiken's concerts wherever they take place.
"We're from California and I suppose our claim to fame is the 84 concerts we've attended as of tonight," a Clayniac said.
When tickets went on sale online in September, the show sold out in 9 minutes. When Aiken offered to give a second performance, that show sold out in 14 minutes.
State Fair officials said they never expected the tickets to sell so quickly, but fans know not to underestimate Aiken's effect.
Fair officials say it is too early for a commitment for a return performance by Aiken next year, but said it certainly would not be for a lack of turnout.
Fairgoers got their first glimpse of the pop star on Sunday when Aiken made a special appearance at his buddy Kimberly Locke's concert at Dorton Arena.
He did not perform, but sat near the stage and enjoyed the show.
