Posted Updated

HALIFAX COUNTY, N.C. — Investigators say the driver of a tractor-trailer may have fallen asleep before crashing into a guardrail and overturning in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95 in Halifax County Sunday morning.

The accident happened sometime before 6 a.m., blocking traffic. The driver of a van later hit the truck, officials said.

A passenger in the van, identified as Hosa Wallace, 46, of Georgia, was killed.

Southbound traffic was backed up for at least five miles until the road was reopened around 1 p.m.
