FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A string of events landed a Fayetteville police officer in the hospital.
Authorities say Officer George Blanco witnessed a hit-and-run. He was off duty, but he was still in uniform and in his patrol car.
When Blanco stopped the car being driven by Ivette Ramos, authorities say she started to kick and attempt to bite officers.
When officers tried to place Ramos in the police car, her passenger, Javier Diaz, attacked Blanco and the other officers. Blanco ended up with a broken leg.
Ramos was charged with drunken driving, operating a vehicle without a license and hit-and-run. Diaz is charged with assaulting a government official.
