Authorities searched a Knightdale home Friday evening after the resident’s body was found inside earlier in the day.

A neighbor discovered the body of Joseph Mark McCann, 45, inside McCann’s home at 7105 Turnipseed Road about 10:45 a.m. Friday, Johnston County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Tammy Amaons said.

The neighbor had car trouble and stopped by the home seeking help, authorities said.

McCann was employed at Cisco Systems in Research Triangle Park, Amaons said.

McCann's property lies on the Wake-Johnston line. The Wake County Sheriff's Office initially responded to the call, but Johnston County investigators took over the case after it was determined that the house is in its jurisdiction.

They have labeled the case as a suspicious death.
