Man Charged In Wayne Girl's Murder Competent To Stand Trial

WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — A man accused of killing a young girl in Wayne County has been deemed competant to stand trial.

Investigators say Eric Lane kidnapped 5-year-old Precious Whitfield from her grandmother's home two years ago, raped her then killed her.

Lane tried to fire his court-appointed lawyers, but he changed his mind.

The district attorney is seeking the death penalty.
