SMITHFIELD, N.C. — The Johnston County manager is apologizing for a deadly mistake at a pet adoption center.
A German shepherd was mistakenly put to sleep there last week.
County Manager Rick Hester said he is reviewing the situation and plans to reorganize the center's management structure to help prevent something like this from happening again.
