The

North Carolina State Fair

is just 10 days away.

The first rides arrived at the fairgrounds on Tuesday. Officials say there will be 100 this year -- the most ever.

"It's more of an amusement park here now than a state fair," said Pal Fontana, of Reithoffer Shows.

Reithoffer Shows takes over the midway this year. Officials will split the fair into three distinct midway areas with a separate kiddieland. Fair managers say that will help with foot traffic.

"Having the additional midway space will help with congestion. I think everyone will be pleased with the carnival layout, the carnival appearance this year," State Fair Manager Wesley Wyatt said.

Some of the 200 food vendors are also setting up shop.

The State Fair runs from Oct. 15 to Oct. 24. The fairground gates will open daily from 8 a.m. through midnight. Exhibit halls are open 9 a.m. until 9:45 p.m. The midway rides will run between 10 a.m. and midnight.
