WAYNE COUNTY, N.C. — A man accused of kidnapping and killing a little girl wants to get rid of his lawyers.
Eric Lane told the judge he wants to defend himself. He is charged with killing 5-year-old Precious Whitfield.
Whitfield was visiting relatives in Wayne County two years ago when she disappeared. Her body was found in a creek.
The judge ordered that Lane have a mental evaluation before he rules on his request to represent himself.
