DMV To Use Face-Recognition Technology

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — New technology will soon make it harder for terrorists to get North Carolina driver licenses.

Starting Friday, the state Division of Motor Vehicles will begin using face-recognition technology. It is part of Operation Stop Fraud.

The technology works by plotting the distance of your facial features and scanning it into a computer.

The image will be stored in the computer's database and compared to an applicant's image to verify their identity. State officials believe it will significantly reduce identity theft.
