Warren County Looking For New Elections Director

Posted Updated

WARRENTON, N.C. — With the November election just five weeks away, Warren County has lost the leader of its Board of Elections.

The State Board of Elections suspended Mary Somerville for acting as both interim director and chairman of the board. Officials say she ignored an order to hire a full-time director.

Somerville inherited a

registration mess

when the county updated rural addresses to e-911. Many county residents who were legally registered to vote did not update their voter registration and were turned away at the polls. Somerville worked to resolve that issue.

Patsy Hargrove, another member of Warren County's elections board, resigned last week. She said she plans to seek the vacant director's job.
