Proposed Raleigh Stadium Could Get Sacked
Raleigh, N.C. — A proposal for an athletic stadium in Raleigh that St. Augustine's College and Shaw University would share is on shaky financial ground.
The original site was at Rock Quarry Road and Interstate 440, where a flea market is now. However, there is now concern the property does not have 50 acres of land that could be developed at a profit to offset costs.
Raleigh leaders originally thought the project would cost $15 million to $20 million. The estimate is now $35 million.
Mayor Charles Meeker said other funding would have to be located in order for the project to go forward.
