Mental Evaluation Sought For Man Charged In Deputy Shooting

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — A pre-trial hearing was held Wednesday for a man charged with killing a Wake County deputy.

Matthew Grant is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Deputy Mark Tucker in February.

The state asked for an independent mental evaluation at Dorothea Dix Hospital, which is expected to take place sometime next week.

The defense also asked that broadcast media be kept out of the courtroom during the trial, but the judge denied that request.
