— A much-awaited road construction project is a step closer to completion.

Officials with the State Department of Transportation said the next section of Interstate 540 from Capital Boulevard at Triangle Towne Center to the Highway 64 Bypass in Knightdale will open Tuesday, Jan. 16.

Officials said timing signal lights on the ramps will be the last order of business.

Invitations to a official ribbon-cutting ceremony went out Monday.

    Cali,
Yes, I think you will be able to do just that. Should take a good bit of time off your commute.

Finally, it looked like none of the road projects in the area were ever going to be finished anytime soon.

I am wondering will I be able to leave Knightdale on 2/64; get on 540 and then exit off of Creedmoor Road? I live in Knightdale, but work in Butner. Thanks

Finally, just hope some damn delinquent kids don't come and start another fire before they can open it.
