RALEIGH, N.C. — State lawmakers need to come up with $10 million for poor school districts. The state Supreme Court said Friday it needs answers by next month.

The deadline stems from the Leandro lawsuit. The General Assembly was ordered to pay $22 million for disadvantaged students.

After the money was not included in the upcoming budget, Gov. Mike Easley stepped in with $12 million.

The courts want to know when the rest will be paid.
