13-Year-Old Charged With First-Degree Murder
Henderson, N.C. — Henderson police are trying to figure out why a 13-year-old allegedly shot and killed another teen late Friday night.
The teen, whose name was not released, was charged Saturday with first-degree murder and was turned over to state Juvenile Services officials.
Police said someone called 911 at about 11:30 p.m. Friday to report a shooting at 537 Montgomery St. in Henderson. Officers found Quentin Rodwell, 16, suffering from a gunshot wound.
According to the people who stay at the house where the shooting occurred, Rodwell was there visiting a friend. The two were playing video games when someone came to the door with a gun.
An ambulance transported Rodwell to Maria Parham Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Investigators still did not have a motive for the shooting Sunday night and did not know if the suspect and the victim knew each other prior to the shooting.
"This is a horrific thing to even try to conceptualize, but again, unfortunately, those are the times we're living in," said Capt. Tony Clark, interim chief of the Henderson Police Department.
Because the case will be tried in the juvenile court system, it is unclear when the suspect will make a first court appearance.
