1 Killed in Smithfield House Fire
One person was killed Friday evening after a Smithfield residence was engulfed in flames.
According to Johnston County authorities, the fire started around 10 pm at a house located on the 300 block of East Church Street.
The victim was taken to the UNC Burn Center in Chapel Hill, but later died. Authorities have not yet released the victim's identity.
The house had been converted into apartments before the fire, authorities said. It is unknown how many residents were affected. A cause for the blaze has not yet been determined.
