DURHAM, N.C. — A car crash forced authorities to evacuate part of a Durham neighborhood near North Carolina Central University Sunday night.
The crash happened around 11 p.m. near the intersection of Alston Avenue and Lawson Street. Police say a car lost control and hit a house, rupturing a gas line.
Authorities evacuated the surrounding block and closed off Alston between Lawson and Cecil streets.
One dorm, Chidley Hall, was also evacuated, but students were allowed back a short while later.
