Spring Lake Man Fatally Stabbed During Argument

SPRING LAKE, N.C. — A 25-year-old Spring Lake man died Saturday after being stabbed during an argument.

According to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office, the stabbing occurred at 2:09 a.m. in the 1600 block of Arctic Circle in Spring Lake. The victim was identified as Joe David Travis, who died at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center from a wound to the abdomen.

As a result of Travis' death, Jessie Lee Murchison, 31, of Spring Lake, has been charged with manslaughter. He was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Facility under a $25,000 secured bond.

The stabbing occurred during an argument between Travis and Murchison.

Murchison will have a first appearance Monday at 9 a.m. in District Court.
