Military Helicopter Makes Precautionary Landing In Bunnlevel

Posted Updated

BUNNLEVEL, N.C. — An AH-64 Apache helicopter from Simmons Army Air Field at Fort Bragg made a precautionary landing Tuesday afternoon in an open field in the Harnett County community of Bunnlevel.

The aircraft, assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division, successfully touched down adjacent to Wire Road, 12 miles north of Simmons, at approximately 4 p.m. today.

No damage was reported to the aircraft, and no casualties were reported. A team was dispatched to the site to investigate the incident.

Bunnlevel is between Fayetteville and Lillington.

The pilot said he decided to land when a light came on the cockpit signalling that something might be wrong. After touchdown, the crew said the aircraft checked out O.K.

"The master caution light came on," said Chief Warrant Officer Scott Hasson, the pilot, in an interview with WRAL. "An associated caution warning light came on, and we executed the appropriate emergency procedure for it, which is land as soon as possible."
