print friendly

A soldier stationed in Afghanistan died in a weekend accident.

Sgt. Craig Cherry was killed when he drove his Humvee over a land mine.

The Maine native had only been there 11 days. He tried to retire in February, but a stop-loss order forced him to remain in the Army.

He had been living in Washington D.C. doing work for the Washington Alexandria National Guard.

Cherry leaves behind a wife and three children. He was 39 years old.
