Two Stabbed As Rival Gangs Brawl At Teen's Birthday Party

Posted Updated

COATS, N.C. — Coats police say activity at the Coats Senior Center turned violent last weekend when two rival Hispanic gangs fought at a 15-year-old girl's birthday party.

"We had a large crowd. It ended up turning into a fight and stabbing. One guy was cut and one guy was stabbed in the throat," said Chief Nelson Baird of the Coats Police Department.

The stabbings left bloodstains on a door. The brawl also left holes in walls and gang graffiti in a men's restroom.

Police say the crowd swelled to about 300 people, well above the center's capacity.

"It was total chaos. We couldn't determine the victims from the suspects," Baird said.

No arrests have been made.

Baird says no one is talking and he is worried the fight may have sparked a gang war in a town that currently has two police officers.
